I'm a mom and my kid asks me every year what I want for mother's day, birthday, xmas, and so on…and she gets the same answer that 99.9% of moms give — "You don't have to get me anything"

But you could always get her flowers, a nice body pampering set, take her out to dinner, a gift certificate for a facial or a massage. Or if you happen to be a kid, you could make her a coupon book with things like doing dishes, laundry, making her lunch, helping in the garden, etc… that she can cash in with you.

I don't think it's rude. When I was a kid she always said she would like some peace and quiet. As an adult, she usually says something like I'd like some of your banana bread. I did more than that because she is my mother, hello? This year she didn't say she wanted anything because she knows times are tough. She's your mom, so go out and get something sweet like flowers and a card and take them to her. That is one thing that moms always like.

it is polite but then it takes the spark out of the pleasure. no element os surprise. Mothers usually do not want anything except a hug and realization what they have done for us....bye her a nice scarf or a chain

it would have been ok a week ago but not today you should have asked earlier however you could take her out for lunch or something as a gift and tell her your buying and ask where she wants to go. but as far as a gift dont ask besides if shes a mom she will probably give an answer like oh i dont need anything just spending time with my son is a good enough gift for me blah blah blah.

Absolutely. I just informed my husband he's taking our daughter and I out to lunch and an early movie for mothersday.

yea- you should totally ask her. it's not rude at all. my mom always tells me and my brother what she wants and if she doesn't we usually ask her. It's not rude.

Sure, I wouldn't mind if my kids asked me. I would probably say something like "nothing really, you kids just come over and visit me and I will be happy!"

But I would really like some flowers to hang on my porch or plant in my garden.
